When you see these guys in their natural environment they can appear a little clumsy, dropping out of the sky and crashing into the water, they would seem to live with a permanent headache!! This is not the case with our Pelican animated model; it is the very epitome of elegance. Crank the handle and he moves backwards and forwards with grace as the large beak opens and closes revealing a fish supper that looks remarkably cheerful considering the predicament it finds itself in.
The Pelican mechanism is centered on a single eccentric cam set inside a cam box that is connected to the tail of the bird by an angled pushrod. The key to the model operation is a pivot on the underside of the body, in turn connected via horizontal bar to the base of the neck. A very clever curved neck link joins the body to the upper beak and when the body moves up and down a push/pull motion operates the beak. The fish is set on a pivoted arm that in turn is fixed into the upper beak.

The models are manufactured from renewable wood sources and are design for age 9 and over. Younger builders may require the assistance of an adult. The models, both kits and built, are not suitable for children 3 years and under due to the risk of choking on the small parts.
