Known from the Near East to Asia to Europe in folklore, these half human half fish creatures have always been associated with beauty and tragedy and stories of them luring sailors into all sorts of trouble. When you crank the handle a series of cams move the articulated body joints and the Mermaid combs her hair - be careful not to become caught by her wily ways!!
Ah! The mystical Mermaid with all that divine movement driven by five cams, of which four are deployed in cam boxes and they are slightly offset from one another in the rotary cycle which via pushrods achieves the undulating motion of the tail. The fifth cam is connected via pushrod to the torso giving that movement. The hair is fixed but the head pivots on a rod so simulating the nodding head effect but all still driven by that final fifth pushrod.
