At the heart of the Golfer mechanism are two offset cams, one drives the ball cage and the other, via a pushrod in the left leg drives a mechanism that converts linear motion into rotary to turn the upper body. The timing of the swing to the movement of the ball is a careful relationship between the two cams and the pushrod length.

The models are manufactured from renewable wood sources and are design for age 9 and over. Younger builders may require the assistance of an adult. The models, both kits and built, are not suitable for children 3 years and under due to the risk of choking on the small parts.
