So which of the world famous pig celebrities is this little guy? He probably would be most likely to be one of the three little pigs, perhaps the owner of the brick house? When you turn the crank handle it operates triangular cams that transfer motion to the arms via short levers and pushrods. The same crank using cams at 90 degrees to one another and with a restricted range of movement allow the head to move from side to side.
The Clapping Pig is quite a complex mechanism for what appears to be a small model. The business end consists of two circular offset cams which bear on a disc at ninety degrees transmitting the rotary motion from the circular cams into the left to right motion of the head. In addition there are two triangular cams that impact a pair of horizontal levers which are in turn connected to a single pushrod with a yolk on the upper end that splits via levers to each of the clapping arms. When building this model it is critical to get the correct relationship between the levers on the back to the position of the arms at the front.
