A catapult is any siege engine which uses an arm to hurl a projectile a great distance, though the term is generally understood to mean medieval siege weapons. Catapults were usually made of wood and assembled at the site of a siege. Although this design has a spoon at the end of the arm, more typically this would have been some form of sling to hold the projectile.
A single band under tension from a pair of ratcheted cogs with pawls to prevent unwinding is what supplies the force for the Catapult throw arm to swing from horizontal which is the loading position to vertical where the arm is stopped by the upper horizontal beam and the projectile continues on its deadly journey.

The models are manufactured from renewable wood sources and are design for age 9 and over. Younger builders may require the assistance of an adult. The models, both kits and built, are not suitable for children 3 years and under due to the risk of choking on the small parts.
